Information Report and Diorama

This term we have been creating dioramas on natural disasters. I researched and wrote my own information report on cyclones. Here it is:

At the end of the unit we showed our finished dioramas to our year 2 buddies. Here is my diorama:

Whilst creating my diorama l found it challenging when I couldn’t get my cyclone to move and I couldn’t get my cyclone to hang up.

What type of natural disaster would you most like to research and why?

Weathering and Erosion

In integrated we are learning about weathering, erosion and deposition and how natural and human events change our landscape.

Weathering is when something in the landscape breaks down. This can be caused by water, wind, animals, plants and ice. Erosion is moving the weathered object away. This is usually caused by wind and sometimes water. Deposition is where the natural object ends up. This can be centimetres or even kilometres away from where the object was weathered.

My class and I went for a walk around the school and found these examples of W.E.D (weathering, erosion and deposition).

What are some examples of W.E.D in your neighbourhood?

Moisture Absorbtion

On Monday Hands on Science visited 4T. We did lots of experiments testing the properties of different materials

My favourite experiment is written below:

Aim: to see which material soaks up water the slowest.

Materials:

. Wool

. Nomex

. Plastic

. Dri-Fit

. Nylon

. Cotton

. water

. Eye dropper

. Something to record your findings on

Method:

  1. Add one drop to a material
  2. Count until the water is completely soaked into the material.
  3. Record how long it took to soak in.
  4. Repeat this with the other materials.

These are some photos of us doing hands on science.

Which Material do you hypothesise will absorb water the slowest?

The second I saw her walk through the door I jumped with joy. I was so excited because my mum had come to Year 4 convict day.

Convict Day is a special day for year fours because we do lots of convict related activities and dress up. Some of the activities we did were making convict love tokens, acting out moments the might of happened in a convicts life, colouring in pictures of the first fleet ships then painting them with water colour, measuring the size of some of the ships (they were tiny for the amount of people on them), making posters of the ships that our convicts were on for meet the convict and of course meet the convict.

What do you know about convicts and the first fleet?

I made a sway to show some pictures of Convict Day and a bit more about what we did.

Indigenous Art Documentary

As part of our history unit, we studied Indigenous culture. We researched lots of facts and then put our research into this documentary.

My group’s topic was indigenous art and my inquiry question was how do aboriginals make paint and different colours.
Here is my group’s video:

What did aboriginals use to make black paint?

Excursion

The rough but also smooth feeling of perfectly carved wood.
How did they think of such good ways to do things? I wondered to myself.

We were at Cranbourne gardens. Bridget our tour guide was teaching us how indigenous people used tools a long time ago and handing them out so we could feel. It is amazing how clever they were at thinking up ways to live off the land.

This is Charlie and I trying to make a fire.

Bridget told us a way aboriginals used to hunt and I thought it was very clever. First they would throw a boomerang at ducks to scare off them to another lake. But hiding under the that lake, there were little boys using a reed with a hole as a snorkel, ready to grab the ducks feet and kill them.

Do you know how aboriginals used the land to do any other clever things? If you do then comment how they did it and what they used.

Avatars!

In 4T one of the first things we did before we got our blog was making an avatar. What’s an avatar I hear you ask? Well I’m about to tell you.

An avatar is an animated character that looks or represents you. When you make your avatar you can put lots of different things in the picture but there has to be a reason why you have put the things in. Sometimes it doesn’t have to look like you but represent you for example you could have pink hair because your favourite colour is pink.

It is important to have an avatar if you are online. The reason it is important to have an avatar is because if you have a photo instead of an avatar people could recognise you and could be a danger to you.

This is my avatar.

I made my avatar like I did because l think it looks like me. I put a cap on my avatar because I like wearing hats especially caps and the cap is pink because I like the colour. I have a rainbow background because I like colours and I think they represent happiness.

If you were to create an avatar what would yours look like and what would you add and Why? Comment your answer down below.
